I am a beginner bee keeper and am learning the ropes with the support of the fantastic Wye Valley Beekeepers Association. http://wyevalleybeekeepers.org
I took the beginners introductory course in May 2024 and was excited to get my first bees the following July. I would like to share this adventure with you in this blog and introduce you to my girls, The O.G. Hive (Queen B is pictured below – can you spot her?) ….. and my second younger colony the NuBees.
I have my two colonies or hives in an ‘Off Apiary’ situated in a beautiful apple orchard in the Herefordshire countryside. An ‘off apiary means that I don’t keep my bees at my home address and travel to the site where they are kept to look after them. This is not uncommon for beekeepers and is often in an obliging farmers field or orchard.

My bees are locally sourced and are lovely dark little bees with a gentle nature but are hard working ladies. I have limited myself to two colonies or hives, because I have a number of hidden disabilities and a chronic illness which severely limit my energy levels and at times my mobility. But that’s a story for another day…….
